PHSE Super Learning Day Recount

By Georgia Bower

Diiiiiiing! That was the sound of the bell for class to start. I thought it might be an ordinary day but when I got to the classroom there were no tables at all. So we sat on the floor it was cold and hard then we had to line up boy girl for a special assembly. When we got into assembly the whole school was there, even nursery! Mrs Geeson slowly walked to the front and explained we were doing disabled sport. I was confused, I didn’t have a clue. She put on some interesting videos. Well I thought it was interesting.

After that we did our first sport. It was super curling, or just curling. Mr Foster split us in half; one half of us went in the wet area and the other stayed in the classroom. In the wet area my bestie was my partner named Bartosz. We made an excellent team we beat our competitors using skill and tactics. Then it was time to swap curing in the wet area to curing in the classroom. We did the same again but sitting down. I won Bartosz, Yippee! The time came to move on.

After fun filled curing we put on our shoes and coats and went outside, brrrrr it was freezing. We were shocked what we would be doing next; it was wheelchair sport. Epic!

We got in one by one and raced. But safety first; buckle up those seat belts. I couldn’t turn at first but I got the hang of it. I preferred this to curling. Diiiing reader, isn’t that your door bell? No it’s the swap over bell for our next sport.

After a delicious lunch it was time for our next sport. Whoop Whoop !!! Seated volleyball, this was so funny, we sat on our bottoms to play volleyball. Cameron and Bekah ALWAYS got the ball. I got a bit annoyed at that. We tried it with a ball and a balloon. I found the ball much easier

Diiiiiing reader it’s not your doorbell, don’t worry I can’t be bothered for another joke! (I feel so ashamed).

Ok next sport, we were pathetic at this. We had NO skill, NO tactic we were just rubbish. What was it I hear you shout? Seated table tennis, we were good at ducking the ping pong balls that kept flying past our heads. Not at all very good at keeping the balls on the table.

Our final sport was blind running; we were blind folded by our companion and had to have courage in them while they led us around the playground. It wasn’t that bad when I got used to not peaking.

The super learning day was amazing and spectacular, and was one of the best days I have had at Kirton Lane, it made me realise what it’s like to have a disability.

Airport

The children arrived excited. They were ushered through the main door airport security.   Their bags were scanned and they were lead into the departure lounge (the hall).

Children waited patiently with an air of anticipation to board their flights. After a safety briefing explaining emergency exits the children landed safely at their destinations.

FS1: Landed safely in Spain where they enjoyed a day of dancing and eating.   Paella was the meal of the day along with Flamenco dancing!

FS2: After a 13 hour journey arrived in Mexico, where they enjoyed creating hats and eating a Mexican banquet.

Year 1: Enjoyed an African adventure. They enjoyed playing African instruments.

Year 2: Had a terrific trip ‘Down Under’ in Australia. They arrived tired but excited after their 24 hour journey.   Luckily, they were greeted by Sheila Cleland, who settled them into Aussie life.   They enjoyed exploring the animals of Australia and made a traditional Aussie Hat.
