Stainforth Kirton Lane Primary School

Foundation Stage

In Foundation stage we have had a very busy and exciting first half term in school. We have been using lots of Shonette Bason-Wood's ideas such as  'Squiggle as we Wiggle' and 'dough disco' everyday to help develop our gross and fine motor skills - this will help develop our handwriting! We have enjoyed exploring and playing in the outside area and suddenly found that Autumn was upon us when our outside area was covered in leaves. We had great fun collecting them and then jumping in the huge pile! We really enjoyed learning to tell the story of The Enormous Turnip though Talk for Writing. We followed clues around the school to help solve the mystery of the missing enormous turnip and ended the week by cooking and enjoying some Enormous Turnip Vegetable Soup. In mathematics, we have been learning to count accurately and have been recognising numbers. in FS2 we have begun to solve problems involving numbers involving adding and taking away. We have also explored shape and used 2d shapes to create different pictures.

We have been really busy " keeping healthy " participating in various sporting activities. We anticipate our weekly PE sessions and fortunately we got to participate in PE outside before Autumn started .

Our Wedding Day

FS1 and FS2 attended their first wedding recently, in honour of Miss Jenkinson’s upcoming wedding.

Fairy Tales

This half term has been a very busy one in Foundation Stage. We have been learning about fairy tales and transformed our role play into the gingerbread house. We have been consolidating our learning of 2d and 3d and have been solving problems using numbers. We also have becomes owners of 3 African Land Snails called Charlie, Doc and Norman. We have been learning how to look after them and have enjoyed monitoring them daily.

The highlight of this half term has got to be celebrating Chinese New Year. We learned Chinese dancing which we performed with dragons and and even had a Chinese banquet of egg fried rice, Chow Mein, spring rolls and pram crackers. The children thought the food was delicious!

This half term our topic is "celebrations"

We started the term of by celebrating the Indian festival  Diwali , we visited our local Indian restaurant MUMBAI all the staff made us feel very welcome . We tried Indian food and got to learn about the spices they add to the different curries.

We have recently written our letters to Santa and are now learning the Christmas story and talking abut different types of celebrations at Christmas time.  We are creating crafts, learning songs and preparing for our end of year Christmas party . This is a great time of year and our Santa's workshop is getting very busy. We have some great elves who are helping Santa with all his presents.

This half term our topic is "Me and My Community.”

In FS1 we have been learning all about ourselves. We have been naming body parts, setting our own challenges and talking about growing up. Here are some pictures to show you what we have enjoyed learning about. We are developing our personal, social and emotional skills and playing lots of “cooperation " games.

We have been practicing the skill of listening for phonics,
Here are some pictures of our phonics walk.

In FS2 we have chosen to learn about how to grow up, what our strengths and special powers are. We have been learning about what is in our community making model towns, using directional language, and applying maths skills during out recent walk to Asda.

We even had dinosaurs who destroyed our Asda role play and we analysed any suspicious activity in school. We were detectives and concluded that over the weekend they had entered the school through the crack in the ceiling, leaving a broken clock and knocking all the books off the shelves in Yr6. Here are some photographs of us as "enquirers"
